Vintage Bicyclists

I found this amazing old photo somewhere on the Internet, forgot about it, and re-discovered it a while ago on my desktop. These guys rode 2 000 miles through New Jersey, Ohio, New York and Massachusetts! I'd love to know who they were and when this was (early 20th century? 1930s, 1940s?).

Rainbow Over Philadelphia

We ventured out tonight for a walk in the park and a visit to the book store, where we found ourselves trapped by an enormous downpour. On our way back, we passed this beautiful rainbow. The light was very heavy and very yellow. About 30 minutes earlier it had been completely dark out!

Mariee Sioux

I really like this a lot. It's a mellow mix of guitars and pane flutes (!) that is just beautiful.

Ripped off

I just got two tickets for the Ratatat show at the Starlight Ballroom Oct. 1st. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like the venue has an independent website, so I had to get the tickets through Ticketmaster. I hate buying stuff through Ticketmaster because it's such a ridiculous ripoff every single time.

Seriously. A Ratatat ticket is $17. Ticketmaster charges a $3 service fee. That's almost 18%. When I was getting tickets for another show a few weeks ago, the service fee was $6 per $24 ticket (the venue that time was the Troc). That's 25%! I ended up just getting the tickets at the Troc instead. I understand that Ticketmaster needs to make money somehow, but $3 or $6 per ticket? Personally, it just makes me hop on my bike and get the tickets elsewhere.

Jerk

I'm riding down Walnut St. I've just passed Schuylkill Ave. and I'm just about to fly through the intersection between Walnut and S 30th St. when a car parked on the corner drives out in the bike lane to cross over to the right lane of Walnut. But it doesn't; the driver drives slowly in front of me and comes to a halt, forcing me to stop behind him.

I'm warm, I'm grouchy and my legs are still sore from a 20 mile ride last weekend. My irritation is growing. I start passing the car with a dirty look on my face when suddenly an arm without a hand comes out through the driver's window. It's followed by a gray head and a sincere, faint 'I'm sorry'.

I give him a smile as I ride past him. I feel like such a jerk.

New camera

What a busy week. Finals week has kept me working all weekend. Last week was my birthday and I got a sweet new camera! How I've been wishing for such a digital wonder as my new Canon XTi Rebel is. Photography is so much fun.

I also went to two shows with friends, Seawolf at North Star Bar and Rilo Kiley at the Electric Factory. Both were lots of fun, some delicious brews and some dancing. Also, both bands were great live which made it even better.

New camera, I love you. You make even a piece of paper look good.

Not rowdy enough!

I came across the video to Man Man's 'Mister Jung Stuffed' today, and while it's a pretty cool video, the studio recording of the song does it no justice. Compare for yourself:

MAN MAN - “Mister Jung Stuffed”

Live in Philly last August (I was there!):

The live version has that right dose of insanity that makes you wanna shake your butt all over the place. The studio version sounds... tamed. It's still a great song, but it doesn't do Man Man justice. In my opinion.
